Schools · Oak Ridge High
If Oak Ridge is part of why you are looking here, start with the good news: the whole town feeds it. The question that actually decides which house you buy is the one people tend to ask too late, which is where kindergarten through eighth grade goes. Here is how I would check both before writing an offer.
All of El Dorado Hills sits in the El Dorado Union High School District, and in practice that means Oak Ridge. Of all the school questions buyers ask me, the high school is the one that almost never catches anyone out.
I would still confirm it for the specific address with the El Dorado Union High School District before you write an offer. Districts can change boundaries, and a listing or an agent site, including this one, is only a snapshot.
On SchoolDigger's statewide ranking it placed 104th of 2,162 California high schools, on 2024 to 2025 data, read on 30 September 2026. About 2,352 students are enrolled for 2025 to 2026, and 97.6 percent graduate in four years, against a California average of 88 percent.
A rank is a blunt instrument and no substitute for walking the campus and talking to the people inside it. The school's own site is orhs.eduhsd.k12.ca.us.
This is the half that catches people. Before Oak Ridge, El Dorado Hills is divided between two separate districts, Buckeye Union and Rescue Union, each with its own schools and its own enrollment. The line between them was drawn around parcels rather than neighborhoods, so it runs straight through some communities.
Serrano is the clearest example. It sits in both districts at once, so two houses a few minutes apart, behind the same gate, can feed different elementary and middle schools.
Buckeye Union's district explorer at buckeyedistrictexplorer.azurewebsites.net returns the school of residence for a physical address. Rescue Union's school explorer is linked from rescueusd.org under Maps and Boundaries.
Put in the physical address of the house, not the name of the neighborhood. Every school in town, with how it ranks and which district it belongs to, is on my El Dorado Hills schools page.
Not reliably. Listings and map apps usually show the nearest schools, and nearest is not the same as assigned. I would not rely on a listing, an app or my own memory for this. The district tools are the live answer.
The special taxes. Some neighborhoods carry a Mello-Roos assessment and some do not, and it shows up on the tax bill rather than in the price. I have written out how to check Mello-Roos on an El Dorado Hills home, and it is worth doing in the same sitting as the school lookup.
Yes. Beyond the districts there is John Adams Academy, Clarksville Charter, Cottonwood and Rising Sun Montessori, and each has its own enrollment rules. None of them depend on which side of a district line the house sits.
I will pull the school districts and the special tax on any parcel you are looking at, before you write an offer rather than after. It takes me a few minutes, and it has changed which house people bought more than once.

No contract, no obligation, and no pressure to be further along than you are. Plenty of people write to me a year before they are ready, and that is genuinely the right time to write.
